Aggies and Hogs travel to Arlington one last time
Get to know Arkansas:
- Location: Fayetteville, AR
- Established: 1871
- Enrollment: 32,140
- Mascot: Razorbacks
- Colors: Cardinal and white
- Conference: SEC
Setting the stage:
- Texas A&M is 3-1 (1-0 in SEC play) and ranked No. 24 in the polls coming off of a lackluster 26-20 win over Bowling Green.
- Arkansas is also 3-1 (1-0 in SEC play), defeating Auburn 24-14 last week.
Betting lines:
- A&M -4.5
- O/U: 52
Historical notes:
- Arkansas leads the all-time series 42-35-3, however the Aggies are 11-1 against the Hogs since joining the SEC.
- Former Arkansas head coach Bobby Petrino is back there as OC this season after serving as A&M’s OC in Jimbo Fisher’s final season.
- This is the final year of the contract for these two teams to play at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. The game is expected to return to the respective campuses beginning in 2025.
- Famous Arkansas alumni include John Daly, Jerry Jones, Jimmy Johnson, Barry Switzer, Pat Summerall, John Tyson (of Tyson Foods) and some Waltons.
What to watch for:
- The runs: Texas A&M enters this game with the No. 8 rushing offense in the country, while Arkansas has the No. 16 rush offense. As a result they’re also both in the top 25 nationally in time of possession. Whichever team is best able to establish their ground game has a good chance of taking down the W.
- QB conundrum: Conner Weigman was out for the second straight week against Bowling Green, and Marcel Reed’s struggles with accuracy has the fanbase divided on who they would like to see run the offense going forward. We likely won’t know until Saturday whether Weigman or Reed will take snaps against Arkansas. Weigman will almost certainly still be a “questionable” on the injury report all week.
- Optimism? Both teams have had up and down results thus far, but the winner of this game will be 4-1 and 2-0 in SEC play. Tougher games are ahead for both squads, but the winner can still cling to hope that this season could hold some magic.
