Aggies and Irish get evening kickoff on ABC
We all knew that Notre Dame at Texas A&M would be one of the biggest matchups in Week 1 of the 2024 college football season. It appears that ESPN thinks it is THE biggest matchup. On Tuesday, the network announced that College Gameday will air their first episode of the 2024 season in Aggieland.

In addition to Gameday coming to down, we also learned the kickoff time and TV channel for the game, which may be the best news of all. The Aggies and Irish draw a primetime network TV slot, with the game beginning at 6:30 p.m. on ABC.

A&M and Notre Dame is obvious a good “name” matchup with two programs who haven’t faced one another in more than 20 years. But the intrigue goes beyond that. There is a good chance that both teams will be ranked to begin the season, and new A&M head coach Mike Elko has several ties to Notre Dame. He coached there himself (as DC) in 2017 before coming to College Station, and his former QB at Duke (Riley Leonard) is now in line to take the reigns for the Irish.
You couldn’t have a more visible beginning to the Mike Elko era in Aggieland. If A&M can pull off a win in this one, good luck maintaining any semblance of reasonable expectations.
