After two straight losses, the Aggies are hoping a change in scenery helps set the squad straight
Texas A&M entered the season as the preseason #1 and started 5-0.
However, the Aggies have now lost two straight contests with the series conclusion against Cal Poly and the midweek meeting with Texas State both being lost.
The Texas A&M lineup has not performed to expectations at this point in the season.
Should Aggie fans be worried?
In my opinion, no. We have a lot of baseball left to figure out what this team is. This is a long season and after an off-season of change, it isn’t surprising that this squad needs some time to find their feet – especially with the added pressure of expectations.
Now the Aggies head to Houston for the Astros Foundation College Classic at Daikin Park (formerly Minute Maid Park).
Perhaps some time away from College Station is exactly what the squad needed.
Let’s dive into the games Texas A&M has ahead this weekend.
Game One: Arizona

Aggie Ace, Ryan Prager is expected to get the start for Friday night’s game against the Arizona Wildcats. The Wildcats started the season 0-3 after dropping contests to Ole Miss, Clemson, and Louisville.
However, since those losses, the Wildcats have rattled off five straight wins over New Mexico, San Diego, and Rice. After being held to just six runs over the course of the first three games of the season, this Arizona squad was held under six runs in a game just once during their five-game winning streak.
Zona’s expected starter is Collin McKinney, a Houston area graduate who has thrown 7.1 innings to this point of the season with four strikeouts and four walks. Texas A&M will hope to get the bats going against McKinney to set the tone for the weekend.
Probable Starters and How to Watch
- Ryan Prager LHP (1-0, 0.00 ERA, 10.0 IP, 10 K, 4 BB) vs. Collin McKinney RHP (0-1, 1.23 ERA, 7.1 IP, 4 K, 4 BB)

For the second game at Daikin Park, Texas A&M draws Oklahoma State.
The Cowboys are 4-3 on the season with the losses coming against Clemson, Texas, and Texas State. While the Pokes have dropped out of the D1 Baseball Top 25, they remain ranked at 25 in the USA Today Coaches Poll.
The expected starter for Oklahoma State in Saturday’s contest has yet to be announced but Harrison Bodendorf got the first Saturday start of the season. Bodendorf has thrown 10 innings this year with 13 strikeouts and 4 walks.
Expected Texas A&M starter Justin Lamkin will face a dangerous Cowboy lineup that has already hit 11 home runs in 2025.
Probable Starters and How to Watch
- Justin Lamkin LHP (0-0, 2.70 ERA, 10.0 IP, 13 K, 5 BB) vs. TBD

Game Three: Rice

For their final game in Houston. this weekend, Texas A&M faces a 2-5 Rice squad that has struggled at the start of 2025. The Owls dropped their first three contest to Villanova, Michigan, and Virginia.
This Owl lineup will likely struggle against Texas A&M starter Myles Patton on Sunday, with Patton looking strong through his first two starts of 2025.
As for the Owls pitching, Texas A&M will face a challenge in projected starter Robert Fernandez. Fernandez has allowed just one run in ten innings pitched. The key will be getting to a Rice bullpen that has had its share of problems this season.
Probable Starters and How to Watch
- Myles Patton LHP (1-0, 0.75 ERA, 12.0 IP, 16 K, 1 BB) vs. Robert Fernandez RHP (0-0, 0.90 ERA, 10.0 IP, 10 K, 3 BB)
