Miami quarterback Cam Ward is among five finalists for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award. Ward is the ACC’s lone representative for the award that goes to the top senior quarterback in the country. Upperclassmen who are set to graduate with their class are also eligible for the award.
Ward’s Resume
Ward is a senior who transferred from Washington State after two years in Pullman. Before that, he was at FCS’ Incarnate Ward. He has guided the Hurricanes to a 9-1 record and a number nine spot in the current College Football Playoff rankings.
He is in the top 10 in the country in almost every significant passing category in the country. Ward leads the country in touchdown passes with 32 and total passing yards with 3,494. He also is top 10 in the country in passing yards per completion, passing efficiency, and passing yards per game at 349. Ward also has three games this season where he has passed for at least 400 yards. The Hurricanes have the number one offense in the country, averaging 544 yards per game.
Ward is also a semifinalist for the 2024 Maxwell Award, the 2024 Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award, and the 2024 Walter Camp Player of the Year Award.
The Rest of the Field
The other finalists for the Unitas Golden Arm Award are Jaxson Dart of Ole Miss, Dillon Gabriel of Oregon, Kurtis Rourke from Indiana, and Shedeur Sanders of Colorado.
Dart’s 3,409 yards is second-best among FBS quarterbacks in 2024. Gabriel has completed 237 of 320 passes (74%) for 2,848 yards and 22 touchdowns while leading the Ducks to the #1 ranking in college football. Rourke a transfer from Ohio University, has helped lead the 10-0 Hoosiers to the best start in school history. Sanders, in helping bring Colorado back to prominence has completed 250 of 343 passes (72%) for 2,882 yards and 24 touchdowns.
The selection committee is made up of college football journalists, announcers, and former players.
The award winner will be announced year’s award winner at the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award celebration at the Four Seasons Hotel in Baltimore on Friday, December 6th.
