A series win against #1 Tennessee could be just the spark Texas A&M needed
Who saw that coming last weekend?
After an incredibly rough start against SEC opponents, Texas A&M managed to notch their first SEC series win of 2025. On the road against No. 1 Tennessee no less.
Now the hard work continues.
Texas A&M has to keep the momentum going against South Carolina at home.
A series win is a must but a sweep would be even better. If the Aggie bats can manage to match the effort from Saturday against Tennessee, this team can go on a run.
In South Carolina, Texas A&M faces an opponent that is 2-10 on the season in the SEC. Let’s talk about the matchup.

As mentioned above, the Texas A&M bats woke up in a big way on Saturday against Tennessee. The Aggies scored nine in the first game of the doubleheader and then scored 17 in an eight-inning run rule in the second game. A big part of that has to be the spark provided by the return of Caden Sorrell from injury.
Since making his return, Sorrell is hitting .407 and has four home runs.
The expected starters for South Carolina are a pair of lefties. Jake McCoy is the projected starter on Thursday night, while Matthew Becker takes the bump on Friday night. The Saturday starter for the Gamecocks is to be determined. The pitching staff for USC hasn’t fared that well in SEC play, including surrendering double-digit runs in all three games of a road sweep against Arkansas.

The bats haven’t fared well for South Carolina in SEC play either as the Gamecocks have eclipsed double-digit runs just once through twelve SEC games – that coming back in their second game against Oklahoma to open the conference slate. Ethan Petry is the player to watch in this Gamecock lineup as he’s hitting .361 with nine home runs on the year.
The Aggie starters haven’t been as good as they were earlier in the season over the past two SEC series but Prager, Lamkin, and Patton are still a formidable trio of lefties for any lineup. The bullpen is still worrisome but I do feel like Texas A&M has found at least one reliable bullpen arm in Weston Moss after his performance the past two weeks against Kentucky and Tennessee.
I do feel like this series comes down more to the bats for the Aggies than anything else but we’ll see as the series kicks off tonight.
Either way, after the series victory over Tennessee, there is life around the Aggie Baseball program once again! Can they provide more against the Gamecocks?
