First black uniform for Texas A&M since 2015
The worst kept secret in Texas A&M history is finally official: The Aggies will wear all black when they take the field on Saturday night against LSU. The black jersey was first unveiled in August, along with some leaks of when they would be worn. And of course, we’ve gotten a steady stream of requests on social media for fans to wear black this Saturday as well, starting with the players, then from Coach Elko and then the official football account on X.
But the jersey had all we got. No helmet, no pants, no full uniform. So there was definitely some remaining mystery as to what the look would be. Well that’s all over, as the full uniform has now been revealed.

As expected, the black jersey has been paired with a black helmet with a black facemask, which has a satin finish very reminiscent of the last black helmet the Aggies wore in 2015. But the similarities end there, as in lieu of the traditional aTm look, the helmet has a white script “Aggies” on each side. Which, in my opinion, looks fantastic. The pants, shockingly, are also black. What is a bit more shocking, is there isn’t a shred of maroon on the entire thing. Either way, it should be a fun look for a huge game on Saturday night.
It should also be noted that LSU has announced they will wear all white for the second week in a row (rather than their traditional gold helmets and gold pants), so unlike last week’s game at Mississippi State, there should be no confusion about who is who on Saturday night at Kyle Field.
Texas A&M’s black uniform history
Saturday will be the first time since 2015 that A&M has worn anything other than maroon and white, and the only the fourth game in which they’ve worn an all-black uniform. The previous times are:
- Nov. 28, 2015 at LSU (L 17-9)
- Oct. 31, 2015 vs South Carolina (W 35-28)
- Nov. 3, 2012 at Mississippi State (W 38-13)
- I’ll also throw out there that the Aggies lost at LSU in 2013 wearing dark gray
I’m not one who ascribes win/loss results to uniforms, so I don’t care that the last time we wore black against LSU we lost. Good teams win games, mediocre to bad teams lose them, and we’ve seen a lot of mediocre A&M teams in recent years. If this version of A&M is up to the challenge on Saturday night, they’ll find a way to win regardless of what they’re wearing.
That said, I can’t deny that the black uniforms are fun, and I’d imagine the A&M players and recruits feel the same way.
