Safe to say, others are starting to believe in the Aggies
After seven ranked teams went down on Saturday, and the Aggies delivered far and away the most lopsided of those losses, it’s no surprise that Texas A&M made a major move in the national rankings released on Sunday. They rose 10 spots in the AP Top 25, going from 25 to 15, and seven spots in the USA Today Coaches Poll, going from 21 to 14.

In addition to the traditional poll, ESPN’s Football Power Index now has the Aggies at No. 12 (#branding), and give them a 33.2% chance of making the College Football Playoff. Overall I think FPI is somewhat flawed, but I’ll take a compliment when we get it.
All in all, it felt like a pretty perfect weekend for Aggie football. In addition to their 41-10 thrashing of Mizzou, you also saw A&M’s strength of schedule get a boost as Arkansas took down No. 4 Tennessee and Florida managed to beat Big 12 foe UCF. While neither of those teams are going to end up being Playoff contenders, it does hopefully illustrate that they’re higher quality opponents than many had thought.
Looking ahead, the Aggies are on bye in Week 7, then head to Starkville in Week 8 to take on the Mississippi St. Bulldogs, who are currently 1-4 overall and 0-2 in SEC play (and they play at Georgia this coming Saturday). It’s not outside the realm of possibility that when A&M next returns to Kyle Field on Oct. 26, it will be a top 15 showdown with LSU. If anything, the onus to maintain that game’s hype may be on LSU, who hosts Ole Miss then plays at Arkansas the next two weeks.
But enough about rankings. Just keep winning games, and everything will take care of itself.
