A new era indeed
We all hoped Texas A&M football would look different under new head coach Mike Elko, we just didn’t know how literally they’d take it. The Aggies announced on Thursday that in his first game as head coach, they would wear white helmets with maroon facemasks.
At no point in Jimbo Fisher’s tenure did A&M wear a helmet color other than maroon.

The Ags haven’t worn a white helmet since the 2017 Belk Bowl, but there’s plenty of history of them in white shells. It happened often in the Kevin Sumlin era (albeit with gray facemasks). The Aggies also wore white helmets (virtually identical to the new ones) for multiple games in 2009.
A&M also donned white helmets for the entirety of the 1950s and the majority 1970s
