A hard-fought end to a successful season
No. 16 Texas A&M gave No. 1 Texas all they could handle in a three-game series in Austin, but ultimately came up one game short, as the Aggies’ season comes to an end while the Longhorns advance to the Women’s College World Series.
The Aggies won Game 1 6-5, and lost a back-and-forth Game 2 in extra innings (falling 9-8). On Sunday, the game was once again close throughout. The Longhorns got three insurance runs in the bottom of the 6th to to up 6-2, only for the Aggies to score three in the 7th and getting the tying and go-ahead runs on base. But it wasn’t quite enough.
Despite the loss, it was an incredibly successful second season for head coach Trisha Ford and her squad. They finished at 44-15 and advanced to a Super Regional for the first time since 2018. The future is bright for this program, and all Aggies should be proud of the fight they showed against the top softball team in the country. Special props to Emiley Kennedy (throwing in all three games) and Trinity Cannon (8 RBI in the series).
Gig ‘em.
