Texas A&M defeats Georgia for first national title
I don’t purport to be a tennis expert on any level, but when you win a natty, you’re long overdue for us to pay attention. The No. 13 Texas A&M women’s tennis team did just that on Sunday night, taking down No. 7 Georgia to claim the program’s first-ever national title.

After the Maroon & White mounted a 3-1 advantage it was a race between Nicole Khirin on Court 3 and Carson Branstine on Court 2 to close out the match. Khirin prevailed 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 over Mell Reasco while Branstine was well on her way to finishing her match with a 6-2, 5-7, 5-0 edge when the dogpile ensued.

The Aggie women are far from a Cinderella story, entering the season ranked No. 2 and having won the SEC regular season title for three straight seasons and the Elite 8 in the previous two. But the first title in program history is no less sweet just because folks knew this team would be good.
