The score? The Astros won on a walk-off, 6-5, but who cares? The real story is that Zach Dezenzo continues to hit well. Today he went 3 for 4 with a homer bringing his OPS up to .988. There are multiple reasons why you shouldn’t get too excited about Spring Training.
1. It is a small sample size.
2. The quality of competition isn’t always at an MLB level.
3. Pitchers are trying new stuff and they may not be throwing there A game.
With all that said, Zenzo’s spring training has been encouraging and, in my opinion, he’s earned a spot on the opening day roster.
Wesneski also pitched ok; he walked four in 3.1 innings, but he did strike out 3. He hasn’t had the best spring, but he will probably get the chance to make a 10+ starts this season. Hopefully he takes advantage.
