1993 – Doug Drabek makes his debut
After an already long and well accomplished career, including a Cy Young and three trips to the postseason, Victoria, Texas native Doug Drabek returns to his home of Texas as an Astro and gets his first win with the team. He tossed two shutout innings against the Dodgers, helping the team to a 3-2 victory.
2004 – Pettitte’s Astros debut
One of the Astros two major additions in the offseason, new pitcher Andy Pettitte makes his debut against the Atlanta Braves and helps the team to a 9-3 win. He would go on to start 15 games in 2004, finishing the year with a solid 3.90 ERA, the second highest of his career.
2021 – Odorizzi joins the squad
With the Astros dealing with multiple injuries to starting pitchers, including Justin Verlander and Framber Valdez, they signed 31-year-old Jake Odorizzi. Coming off a rough season during the pandemic, finishing 2020 with a 6.59 ERA in four starts for the Braves, Odorizzi offers the team some help eating innings, making 23 starts in 2021 and pitching over 100 innings.
