What happened today in team history?
1934 – Amalfitano is born
In San Pedro, California, former Astros infielder Joey Amalfitano was born. Amalfitano only played one year on the Astros, but that one year happened to be the first year in the franchise’s history, making him the first person to play second base for the Colt 45’s.
1992 – Astros get Doug Jones from free agency
In the offseason, the Astros signed two players, one of them being pitcher Doug Jones. Already 35-years-old, Jones pitched two seasons for the Astros. His 1992 campaign turned out to be the best season of his career, finishing with a 11-8 record and 1.85 ERA while leading the league with 70 finishes in 80 appearances, earning him team MVP that year.
