In Richmond, California, future Astros pitcher Dave Smith was born. He would go on to pitch 11 years with the Astros later in his life, recording 199 saves in 400 chances with a 2.53 ERA and made two all-star games.
2005 – Clemens returns to the Astros
Instead of calling it quits on the game of baseball like he was planning to, Roger Clemens signs the richest contract in baseball for a pitcher with the Astros, signing for $18 million, and coming back the next year. He would go on to finish second in Cy Young voting after leading the league with a 1.87 ERA.
