1962 – Ground is broken at the Astrodome
After many years, ground is officially broken for the Astrodome, meaning construction officially begins. This ceremony included the team, city and county officials all getting to shoot pistols into the ground. The first game was played there three years later.
1999 – Wagner gets new contract
Coming off a record breaking season, fanning 14.55 hitters per nine innings, Billy Wagner and the Astros agreed to a three-year deal worth $10 million. Wagner ended up pitching four more seasons with the Astros before signing a contract with the Pittsburgh Pirate in 2004.
