In Tenares, Dominican Republic, Willy Taveras was born. Making his way to American and into the major leagues, Tavaras played seven seasons in the majors, three of them with the Astros, his 2005 rookie season saw him hit .219 and finish second in Rookie of the Year voting.
This season also included a 30-game hitting streak, a club record that still holds to this day.
