1964 – Colt .45s get their first division lead in franchise history
With the Colt .45s win over the Cincinnati Reds in their opener, winning 6-3, the Colt .45s have sole possession of first place for the first time in the franchises’ three-year history. President Lyndon B. Johnson was in the stands to witness the win for Houston.
1975 – Astros retire No. 40
Just a year after being found dead in his garage at just 29-years-old, the Houston Astros retire No. 40 in honor of Don Wilson. Dying from carbon monoxide poisoning, Wilson spent nine-years with the Astros during his short career and was amazing, with a 104-92 record and a 3.15 ERA.
