On this day in New Castle, AL, Chalmer Luman Harris is born. He would go on to play six seasons in the MLB before turning to coaching where he would coach the Colt 45’s and Astros from 1964-1965, including their first game in the Astrodome.
1961 – Buffs are purchased
The Houston Sports Association completed its purchase of the minor league team the Houston Buffs. The team would serve as a minor league team until a transition into National League play in the following year.
