Two more games in Houston before Opening Day Thursday
In a game where most of the runs were scored by minor leaguers against minor leaguers, the Astros pulled out an 8-6 win.
Significant points:
Spencer Arrighetti followed up yesterday’s shaky performance by Hunter Brown with a thud of his own. in 4.2 IP he allowed three earned runs on three hits with five strikeouts. Like Brown yesterday, command was the main issue, offering four walks.
In the Zach Dezenzo vs. Cam Smith prospect competition for a slot on the 26-man, neither made a case. Dezenzo was 0-2 with a walk and two Ks. Smith was 0-3 with one K.
Brendan Rodgers, somewhere between not making the roster to starting at second base, had an RBI double
I don’t usually mention 18-year-old single A players, but $ million bonus baby from the Dominican, German Rodriguez made, as the radio announcers described it, the play of the entire Spring Training at shortstop, and added a two RBI single, flashing a quick bat in his ony Spring appearance.
The Astros return to Houston tomorrow for games against the Sugarland affiliated Monday and Tuesday before Opening Day Thursday. The Astros leave Florida with cold bats at the top of the lineup and at least three starting pitchers who can’t find the strike zone. Let’s hope in these next two days these things get straightened out before the Mets come to town Thursday.
