It’s the last warm up before Opening Day, this Thursday in Daikin Park
It’s the last chance to get ready for the season, and, in a few cases, make your case to stick on the OD roster.
Both Cam Smith and Zack Dezenzo are the lineup today. I really believe that if Smith rakes today that could be the deciding factor on whether he goes back to the minors for more seasoning and make an unprecedented jump from barely touching AA to straight to the majors. Really, if it were a foregone conclusion that Smith was going down, it would have been done a few days ago. He and Dezenzo are potential rookies competing for a right field position, and both have been red-hot this Spring. Dezenzo is older with a lower ceiling, but he has more experience and can fill in at multiple infield positions, including first base. It’s down to the wire.
A.J. Blubaugh is pitching for the Space Cowboys and chances are good we will see him again sometime this season wearing an Astros uni. Hayden Wesneski gets his last tune up before the season begins. Apparently he is slotted as the fifth starter.
Can Yordan Alvarez get untracked today?
The line up looks like a realistic OD lineup except for the deletion of Yainer Diaz and Jake Meyers.
Here’s the lineup.
