I have lived in the NYC area for almost three years, and I often wonder “which is harder, being a Republican in New York City, or being an Astros fan?” Honestly, a New York has never told me to f*** myself when I tell them my thoughts on tariff policy or 1965’s Hart-Cellar act…. However when I tell a New Yorker I’ve been an Astros fan since my dad worked for Enron… they go ballistic!
Anyway, the Astros won a tight one tonight! And I’m pumped!
First off, Hunter Brown pitched like a champ. Going 6.2 innings and allowing zero earned runs. Yes, he did run into some trouble in the seventh, but all is well that ends well?
Current Astro great, Jason Hayward, started off the scoring with a two- double in the 5th.
The seventh inning was rough for Houston; Abreu gave up a three RBI double. However, it could have been a bit worse.
The Astros entered the bottom of the eighth down 3-2. However, through some shoddy defense by KC and some professional hitting by the energy capital of the world, the Astros scored four runs to put themselves up 6-3.
The plate appearance that really stood out was Zach Dezenzo’s. With the game tied 3-3, bases loaded, two outs, Zach got down in the count 1-2.
Baseball is a game of big numbers, and it’s wrong to make assumptions off one at-bat; however, what Dezenzo did was nothing short of professional and remarkable.
Down 1-2, Dezenzo saw three consecutive sweepers that were almost impossible to hit. Instead of swinging, and either whiffing or weakly grounding out, Zach took each pitch and drew a go ahead walk.
I don’t know what Zd’s career has in store, but man that is a core memory.
Dubon drove in two runs the next PA to make the game 6-3.
Hader shut the game down in the 9th, what is new?
final score: Astros 6, Royals 3
Thoughts:
The last week was tough..but wins like this make up for it!
Does Justin Verlander deserve a spot in the playoff rotation? Do you think Hunter Brown or Spencer Arrighetti are less deserving?
I didn’t play baseball past little league, but I wrestled in high school and college. Winning games like this is like getting a last second takedown to win a big match. There is nothing like it, and no matter what happens the rest of the season… this game happened.
