Now the second deal made between the two teams this offseason
After much back-and-forth between the two teams and Pressly, who at first wouldn’t waive his no-trade clause, a deal has been made to send reliver Ryan Pressly to the Chicago Cubs for, at the time of writing this, an unknown amount. Pressly, a Dallas native, came to Houston in 2018 as part of a mid-season deal with the Minnesota Twins and has been with the organization ever since. This is now the second deal the Astros have made with Chicago this offseason, dealing outfielder Kyle Tucker to them just over a month ago.
In his seven years with the organization, he was named an All-Star twice, earning the first of his career in 2019 and his second in 2021. He helped lead the back-end of the Astros pen for years, finishing his seven years with a 2.81 ERA, 111 saves (fourth all-time in franchise history) and over 400 strikeouts.
Pressly was also a monster in the postseason for the Astros, leaving Houston with a 2.78 postseason ERA in 47 games. He also was one of the biggest contributors to the Astros 2022 World Series run, pitching the final out (with now teammate Kyle Tucker making the catch) and finishing the 2022 postseason with a 0.00 ERA in 10 appearances.
What the Astros are getting back from the Cubs is not known at the time, but it is reported to be RHP Juan Bello according to reporter Ari Alexander and the Cubs are expected to send money over to over his salary according to insider Chandler Rome.
