Hayden Wesneski gets a quality start and his first Astros win while Isaac Paredes homers for his third time in three games
Hayden Wesneski got his first win today, in part thanks to a start at least good enough for any fifth starter, and in part thanks to some rare run support from the beleaguered Astros offense. The win gave the Astros a series win; it was the first series loss for the Angels all year.
Wesneski survived six innings, allowing three runs, all on solo homers, while striking out 10 Angels. The strikeout total was a career high for Wesnski. He left the game with a 5-3 lead, most of the damage from a three-run homer from Isaac Paredes off Kyle Hendricks in the Astros’ five-run second inning. It was Paredes’s third home run in his last three games.

Bryan King, Bryan Abreu, and Josh Hader held the Angels scoreless through innings 7-9. Astros pitchers allowed nine hits but not a single walk, with 16 Ks.
On the Cam Smith watch, he was 1-3 with a second-inning RBI single.
Although game two of this series was a scary flashback to the first 12 games of the season offense-wise, it looks like the bats are warming up a little. The team scored 22 runs in this series in three games. And clearly, the biggest bat of all, Yordan Alvarez, is not quite in sync yet. Looking forward to a barrage of dingers from him coming soon.
