Today’s 4-3 loss to the Nationals contained negatives and positives in terms of significance for the future Astros.
Negatives:
- In two innings, Ronel Blanco gave up three hits, a walk, and two (unearned) runs. If the Astros hope to make the playoffs, they’ll almost certainly need a good season from Blanco
- Josh Hader, in his first Spring appearance, allowed a two-run homer, his 13th as an Astro, including the 12 he allowed last year in 71 innings.
- In his first fielding attempt as a left fielder, Jose Altuve made a throwing error to home.
Positives
- Blanco added swing and miss to his pitching, striking out four.
- Altuve made a good play at the wall in left.
- Jake Meyers finally got some hits, driving in two runs on two hits.
The Astros take on the Marlins tomorrow at 12:10 with Framber Valdez on the mound.
