Houston Astros veteran Alex Bregman is set to hit free agency this winter, but talks have begun on a potential contract extension. There have already been talks of the third baseman moving to several other teams as a free agent, such as the Detroit Tigers, Boston Red Sox, and the Toronto Blue Jays. However, following Matt Chapman‘s extension with the San Francisco Giants, it appears that Bregman could follow in similar footsteps.

Astros Silver Slugger Alex Bregman in Talks for Extension
Bregman has sported a .256 average this season with 23 home runs and 67 RBI. He has been one part of the recent success of the Astros, as in August, he went four straight games hitting a home run. Talk about an impressive feat for the 2019 Silver Slugger Award winner. Bregman continues to demonstrate earnestness and hustle for the Astros. On September 17th, Bregman reached a WAR of 38.9 in his career. With this, he passed Hall of Famer Harold Baines on the all-time list, whose career WAR was 38.8. Especially with all the hype that Bregman has been receiving, it would be hard for the Astros to let go of him, especially considering all his contributions to the team.
With deadline acquisition Yusei Kikuchi on the hill, both Bregman and Yordan Alvarez homered on September 14th, leading to the Astros still winning all their games with Kikuchi pitching. Star players such as Bregman, Jose Altuve, and others form the championship core of the Astros. They have a chance to reach their eighth straight ALCS this postseason.
If Bregman has a dynamite October with the Astros, it would further incentivize Houston to extend his contract with them. His stock continues to rise, as many teams would love to add him to their roster. Sports Agent Scott Boras has also already discussed how Bregman could be qualified to play second base rather than third. With the versatility and experience that he can provide, he would more than deserving of a contract extension.
